Procedure Lists

A good PROCEDURE LIST should
  • List the sequence of STEPS required to construct a project
  • Identify the TOOLS needed at each step
  • Clearly state the DIMENSIONS associated at each step
  • Indicate any helpful NOTES at each step

It lists the ingredients, quantities, methods and the order in which you put everything together

The "Recipe" is your PROCEDURE LIST
If you want to construct a competent product, you need to follow a PROCEDURE LIST
Procedure lists ensure that a job is done efficiently and thoroughly by listing the Tools, Dimensions and Procedures required at each step.

NOTE - It's not unusual to BORROW a recipe - but it's up to you to
  • Be SURE they're complete, and
  • ADJUST the proportions to suit YOUR project

Procedure List Exemplar - Yo Yo
A. Flywheel Construction
1. Select Rough Stock
2. DRESS Wood
3. Trace Flywheels & cuts

B. Axle Construction

Sand WITH the grain
Use CARPENTER's glue
Wipe any excess glue
Wait until glue has set

You are responsible to WRITE YOUR OWN "Procedure List" for any future projects.

GOOGLESITE Procedure Lists

In most word processors, you can use a BULLETED LIST to create a useful procedure list
Use the "ORDERED (numbered) Bullet list" and hit the TAB key to indent appropriate items:

  1. Flywheel Construction.
    1. Select Rough Stock
      1. Approx 48" x 4" x 7/8"
      2. Avoid knots & warped stock
    2. DRESS Wood- Use the PLANER
      1. Share the stock with 1 or 2 other students at this point who want the same thickness of yoyo
      2. Reduce thickness to a standard size - ie. 3/4" or 5/8" or 1/2"
    3. Trace Flywheels & cuts- Use COMPASS and PENCIL
      1. Mark the CENTER of the two flywheels
      2. Measure a radius of precise size
      1. Cut loose your 2 foot piece with both flywheels traced
    5. Drill Center Holes(BEFORE rough cutting the flywheels loose) - USE DRILL PRESS
      1. Clamp stock to the table
      2. Drill center holes
    6. Rough Cut Wheels from stock- Use BAND SAW or SCROLL SAW
      1. This should leave you with TWO pieces of stock - one for each flywheel
      2. Cut ONE side just up to the radius of the yoyo
    7. Relief Cuts - Use BAND SAW or SCROLL SAW
    8. Mount and Cut Flywheels - Use BAND SAW or SCROLL SAW
    9. Bevel Edges - USE DISC SANDER

  2. Axle Construction
    1. Cut Axle

  3. Assemble Yo-Yo
    1. Sand Interior of Flywheels
    2. Glue Components
    3. Insert Dowel
    4. Remove Exposed Dowel
    5. Finish Sanding
    6. Attached nylon string to axel

  3. What you would do differently
  4. What you have learned
  5. What advice would you give someone that is about to start the same project.
