There are 5 things you only need to do once to properly setup your new GoogleDoc account

1. Sync your Chrome browser
  • When you first log on to Chrome on a new computer, it will ask you if you want to SYNC to a particular Gmail address. Go ahead and SYNC to your OCDSB GMail account; this build and synchronize your bookmarks, extensions and chrome apps into that computer's chrome browser.
  • When you logout from Windows, your version of the chrome browser will be locked away from other users of that computer, and waiting for you when you log back on again.

2. Fix your Chrome browser settings
  • Click on the SETTINGS in the top right corner of the Chrome browser and slide down to the SETTINGS item
  • Set the APPEARANCE settings to SHOW HOME BUTTON and ALWAYS SHOW THE BOOKMARKS BAR
  • Scroll to the bottom and click SHOT ADVANCED SETTINGS
    • Set the DOWNLOADS settings to always ASK WHERE TO SAVE EACH FILE BEFORE DOWNLOADING

3. Bookmark your web pages
  • Drag webpage addresses from the URL window onto your bookmark bar
  • Go there and bookmark them RIGHT NOW so that you can get there easily whenever you need it.

4. Set your TIMEZONE for GoogleSites and Google Calendar
  • For events to appear properly in Ottawa, your timezone must be set to EASTERN TIME -5:00 GMT (or sometimes -4:00 GMT during daylight savings)
  • The settings can usually be found under the "Gear" icon - but the links above should get you there directly.

5. Forward your mail
  • Keep tabs on your John McCrae email; set up your McCrae email to forward to another address if you're likely to check there more regularly.
    • Go to SETTINGS (the Gear icon)
    • Click on FORWARDING and POP/IMAP
    • Click "ADD A FORWARDING ADDRESS" and fill in the details
This will send a copy of your email to BOTH locations
