NON-DESTRUCTIVE Photoshop Shadows
Uses the practice of ADDING LAYERS to create effects or change elements in your composition, rather than altering EXISTING layers

EXAMPLE:
Drop Shadows
NEVER paint drop shadows onto your BACKGROUND layer!

  • Create a layer above it called "Shadow", and set it's opacity between 20-50%
  • Paint a soft edged shadow in THAT layer.
  • TIPS:
    • If you make a mistake, you can use a soft edged eraser tool to "sculpt" it more
    • If you want to add even DEEPER shadows, you can add ANOTHER shadow layer
MERGING LAYERS
If you NEED to merge layers together to simplify your composition, you can do so using the PALETTE MENU
